Keeping Kids Safe
Kirklees Junior Hockey Club takes the issue of Child Protection seriously and has appointed a Child Protection Officer (Jillian Myall) to coordinate good practice and to provide coaches with information and training opportunities. The junior section endorses the policies as produced by Sports Coach UK and the NSPCC that include:
Respecting the rights, dignity and worth of all children and to treat everyone with equality.
Placing the well-being and safety of the player above the development of performance.
Working with young people in a public and open environment.
Ensuring coaching activities are appropriate to the age, maturity and ability of the player.
Promoting the positive aspects of sport and never to condone rule violation, bad sportsmanship, or the use of prohibited substances.
Coaches maintaining a consistently high standard of personal behaviour.
Only criticising juniors in a constructive and friendly fashion.
Being aware of the needs, customs and cultural requirements of athletes with differing abilities or young people from different racial or religious backgrounds.
If parents or youngsters have any concerns, or wish for information on any of the issues raised above please contact Jillian Myall (Child Protection Officer) or any committee member/team manager.
A leaflet providing more detailed information is available on request.
We also ask that any parents wishing to use photographic equipment at training or events do so for their own personal use and will not publish or distribute pictures elsewhere, without first seeking permission from the club/parents.
Promoting Equal Opportunities
This club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England definition of sports equity: Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society. The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status. The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse. All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity. The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to club disciplinary procedure.
Get involved!
It’s that time of year when once again we are looking to recruit enthusiastic parents/carers to assist in the running of the club. A large number of you do remain at the pitch side throughout the training sessions therefore, if you want to become more involved in your daughter’s hobby we have not been known to refuse offers of help. If you have any coaching/umpiring experience and wouldn’t mind giving a hand on a Sunday morning or are able to assist the committee by collecting training fees and taking the register, your input would be greatly appreciated. We have also received funding to run some leadership/umpire courses over this next season, which will be on offer to both members and parents, so lack of experience is not a valid excuse.
Should anybody like to consider joining the committee then we are more than delighted to welcome you onboard. As our girls move up through the ranks it is inevitable that we will lose some parents along the way so we do need to keep things rolling. Our committee members will confirm that the roles are not too demanding time wise and we are always open to fresh ideas and input. If you feel you can help in anyway, please feel free to approach one of the committee members at training or if you would rather put pen to paper to let us have your details, please down load the short form below, alternatively email admin@kghc.co.uk and your email will be sent to the appropriate party.
